Kitty Hawk Woodworking opened its doors for business in 2004. However, owner, Bruce Ferrier is anything but new to his trade. He possesses over 25-years experience in cabinetry, furniture building and restorative work.

It was working in the family hardwood flooring business that sparked Ferrier’s passion. Eventually he moved on and served as an apprentice to Joe Bergen and Fred Hightower of Lansdale, Pa. It was in that position he learned the art of furniture repair and antique restoration. As a trainee he performed restorative work for the Philadelphia Art Museum and the Dorothy Lerner Galleries of Philadelphia.

Ferrier restores antiques to their original manufactured condition. He achieves this using period hand tools such as Scratch Stock for beading and fluting as well as hand chisels. If a tool is unavailable, he will grind his own blades to attain the desired results.

Kitty Hawk Woodworks is the exclusive restorer for Morgan House Antiques of Virginia Beach, VA.

He was commissioned to build a picture display for the “Women in Flight” exhibit at the Wright Brothers’ Centennial Celebration in Kitty Hawk, NC. At the conclusion of the event, the exhibit along with Ferrier’s display cabinet moved to the Smithsonian Museum.

Ferrier works in African exotics and domestic hardwoods. He combines woods considering textures, style, personality and durability to create truly unique works of art. He often looks to nature for inspiration for his creations.
